Everyday each of us come across potential opportunties in which we might be able to do more business. This opportunity could happen when you drop off your suit at your local dry cleaners and you have the opportunity to meet the owner. Or, this opportunity could be a new business or restaurant that you see opening when you drive around the corner. In these situations, some may go about their normal day and others, may just do the opposite and attempt to capitalize on these opportunities, which course of action do you take?
How can you capitalize on these opportunities? As a suggestion, you can introduce yourself and ask the business owner if you can contact them in the future about your product and/or service (i.e. Emphasize both features and benefits if you can). If you can't speak with the business owner then take their business card. I would then follow up with them and let them know that you are a customer of their business and you wanted to speak with them about your product and/or service. If you are driving down a street and see a new business opening up then remember where you saw them and contact them. You could even pull over and write down the name of the new business and their phone number if one is listed on the property. A great idea is to bring a mini tape recorder with you and leave it in your car for these types of situations. Now that you are aware of these potential opportunities, do you think that you might act on them? What do you have to lose? How much more do you have to gain?
